The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the BMD Official Weather Forecast Mobile Application collects, uses, stores, and safeguards your personal information when you use our services.
By downloading and using this application, you agree to the practices described in this policy. This application is operated by BMD under the Ministry of Defence, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

- Delivering real-time and forecast weather data for your selected or detected location across Bangladesh
- Sending timely alerts for cyclones, floods, severe thunderstorms, storm surges, and other meteorological hazards
- Improving app performance, resolving technical issues, and enhancing the user interface
- Conducting statistical analysis on usage patterns to inform future feature development
- Complying with applicable laws, regulations, and government directives
- Responding to user feedback, complaints, or support requests
Location access is the core functionality of this application. We handle location data with strict care:
- Foreground only: Location is accessed only while the app is actively open, unless you explicitly enable background location for weather alert notifications.
- Permission-based: The app will request your explicit permission before accessing GPS data. You may deny this permission and manually select your location instead.
- Not stored permanently: Precise GPS coordinates are used in real time to fetch weather data and are not retained on our servers beyond the session.
- No tracking: BMD does not track your movement, build location history profiles, or share your location with advertisers.
You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's Settings → App Permissions menu without losing access to the application's core features.
BMD does not sell or commercially share your data. Limited data sharing occurs only in the following circumstances:
- Government agencies: Aggregated, anonymised meteorological usage data may be shared with relevant ministries (e.g., Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief) for disaster preparedness planning.
- Technology service providers: Trusted third-party providers (cloud hosting, push notification services, analytics platforms) that process data strictly on BMD's behalf under data processing agreements.
- Legal obligations: When required by applicable Bangladesh law, court order, or authorised government authority.
- Emergency situations: Where disclosure is necessary to protect public safety, national security, or prevent imminent harm.
All third-party service providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and solely for the specified purpose.
